SPECIAL REPORT: Moving to a New School

Families often move to different areas, locations and even countries for various reasons and this often results in children having to change schools. Moving to a new school is a big deal! It can be one of the most significant transition periods of a student’s life. Children will often be pushed mentally and emotionally during this time and can feel worried and anxious, but also excited and happy – all at the same time!

These mixed emotions can often be difficult to navigate for both children and parents. However, there are a number of strategies that can be deployed to ensure a smooth transition. Making new friends, learning new routines, discovering new environments, accepting new cultures and adjusting to new learning practices is all part of the process. Some children will sail through this transition period, whilst others may need a bit more guidance.
